Piano Lab 1 Instructed by Mr. Peter Certo, Mr. Davon Wheeler and Mr. James Fillmore. Piano Lab I is a full year course that introduces students to the fundamentals of playing the keyboard.  


Piano Lab 2 Instructed by Mr. James Fillmore

Piano Lab II is a full year course that provides students with the opportunity to learn and apply advanced keyboard skills as well as basic theory. The course focuses on Rhythm, Melody, Harmony, Music Fundamentals, Piano techniques and Musicality. 


Jazz Improvisation Instructed by Mr. Davon Wheeler

An “A-level” half year course that will enhance students’ abilities in musical improvisation.  Instruction will includes scales, major and minor harmonies, chord progressions, harmonic substitutions, analysis, chord/scale relationships, ear training, and keyboard harmony.


Harmony Instructed by Mr. Peter Certo

Harmony is an elective course which acts as an extension of the Piano, Instrumental and Vocal Music Programs. It is designed for those students, who wish to acquire specific knowledge with regard to the composition and arranging of music.



AP Music Theory Instructed by Mr. Peter Certo

Engages students in learning activities that will help them to achieve the ability to recognize, understand, and describe the basic materials and processes of music that are heard or presented in a score. These abilities will be developed through various listening, performance, written, creative, and analytical exercises. Although this course focuses on music of the Common Practice Period (1600 – 1900), materials and processes found in other styles and genres are also studied.


Students enrolled in AP Harmony are encouraged to take the College Board’s Advanced Placement Music Theory Examination. Students who successfully complete the AP Music Theory Examination and plan to major in music in college may be able to enroll in an advanced music theory course, depending upon the individual college’s policy.
