Concert Choir I-IV:
There is no prerequisite for participation in Concert Choir. Subsequent study in Concert Choir is dependent upon successful completion of the first course. Students will learn the correct usage of the singing and speaking voice, engage in a progressive study of good song literature and appreciate the art of singing from the perspective of the listener and the performer. As the students progress through the sequence of courses, they will engage in extensive work in breath control, production of vocal sounds, sight-reading, interval training and performance skills. In the Concert Choir IV class, students will explore a survey of choral literature that is a sampling of music from the past five centuries.
SELECT CHOIR I-IV
Students will be placed in Select Choir based upon the recommendation of the vocal teacher or by audition. The Select Choir course sequence emphasizes showmanship skills as students enrolled in this course will receive many performance opportunities. As the student progresses through this sequence of courses, he or she will engage in ensemble singing, explore a wide range of styles, and practice more challenging musical selections than what is offered in Concert Choir. In Select Choir III and IV, students will develop leadership qualities as they have opportunities to conduct, accompany, and choreograph performances, depending upon the music chosen for that year.
